PREPPING FOR POWER CUTS OR PROLONGED CRISIS, Cooking, Heat & Light Options, Prepper Pantry Meal
It’s always worth having a regular practice run to give the emergency cooking, lighting & heating kit a run out. It’s no use finding out something isn’t working, or you have the wrong batteries, or whatever when you’re in the middle of an actual emergency.
So last night, by lanternlight, I made a simple meal of chicken meatballs & spaghetti bolognaise for 4, all from my prepper pantry supplies suitable for long-term storage. This something we could do in a 3-hour pre-planned blackout, or 3 months into a prolonged crisis. The video also shows the nutritional breakdown as an example of how I prioritise and plan the use of my food stores. Works out at 669 kcals for 64 pence per serving.
In most scenarios we’d still be able to purchase, barter and forage for some supplies and even hunt and fish a little. But in a very worse case scenario we could still eat much like this several months into living exclusively from our stockpiles. Not ideal – but manageable.
